The Broads are Britain's largest protected wetland and the third largest inland waterway. It is made up of mostly navigable rivers and lakes residing in the counties of Norfolk and Suffolk. The name Broads comes from the local name for lakes mostly formed from the flooding of peat works. Consequently many of the broads are relatively shallow and some have specific channels for navigation by boat. A popular holiday destination since the late 19th century, numerous different types of boats are available for hire and a great deal of promotion is now being given to sustainable, electric powered boating. Charging points are available at a number of the mooring sites provided by the Broads Authority.
