This area in England's county of Shropshire is a varied landscape of tranquil hills, woods and river valleys located between the low plains of the Midlands and upland Wales. The rocky plateaus, wooded escarpments and rolling hills provide a rich variety of heath, moor and grass terrain and a patchwork of farmed landscape creating a rewarding environment for hikers and cyclists. The Shrophire Hills have the greatest concentration of medieval castle earthworks in Britain and there are ancient stone and timber framed buildings, Iron Age hill forts, castles and manor houses still surviving today
