In the 17th Century in the time of Charles II, the colours of a regiment were paraded in front of the soldiers every day in battle to make sure every man recognised the colours of his regiment. The modern Trooping the Colour parade continues as an annual ceremonial tradition on the Queen's official birthday with the spectacle taking in Buckingham Palace, The Mall, Horseguards Parade and Whitehall.
