A Pear Drop is a boiled sweet made from sugar and flavourings and is usually a combination of half pink and half yellow in the shape of a pear. The artificial flavours, esters, are responsible for the characteristic banana and pear flavours. However, a natural pear-derived product from pear juice concentrate is sometimes used. Pear Drops are one of the old fashioned sweets associated with the traditional British sweetshop where they would be sold by the quarter pound measure and packaged in simple paper bags.
