Maynards and Bassetts are two nostalgic British brands, known for their perennially popular sweets. Wine gums are chewy gumdrops made in different shapes, flavours and colours. They are labelled as port, sherry, champagne, burgundy, gin and claret but do not contain alcohol. Maynard's wine gums were introduced in 1909. Jelly Babies, a sugary jelly sweet in different colours and shaped as plump babies originated in Lancashire, becoming mass produced in Yorkshire from 1918. Bassett's Liquorice Allsorts, made of liquorice, sugar, aniseed and coconut were first produced in Sheffield in 1899.
