The leek is the national emblem of Wales and the Welsh for leek is Cenhinen, similar to the Welsh for daffodil which is Cenhinen Pedr and it is believed that over the years they became confused until the daffodil was adopted as a second emblem of Wales. Daffodils are usually in bloom on the 1 March, St David's Day, when it is traditionally worn as a symbol of pride. It smells better than a leek too.
