The Farne Islands located two miles off the Northumberland coast, was declared by Sir David Attenborough as his favourite place in the UK to see nature at its best. During summertime around 150,000 breeding pairs of seabirds are on the islands. Around 23 different varieties of birds can be spotted, including razorbills, guillemots, eider ducks and puffins. The islands have the largest breeding colony of grey seals in England. Boat rides go to the islands from Seahouses harbour throughout the year, weather permitting. A variety of tours are available, some landing on the islands.
