The World Conker Championships are held annually in the village of Ashton in Northamptonshire. Conker players from around the world gather on the village green to compete for the title King Conker and Queen Conker. Ashton only held a conker contest in 1965 because the weather was too bad to go fishing and since then the event has raised over £400,000 for charity. Around 500 participants from 13 countries, participate. The competition is a knock out tournament with each game decided when one of the conkers is smashed. The two remaining players compete in the final for the World title.
