Sotheran's was originally founded in York in 1761 and later established near Piccadilly in 1815. In the early years it developed from purchasing several important libraries. It has since become a London literary landmark and is the oldest antiquarian bookstore in the world. Regular clients and passers-by are welcome to browse in the spacious shop premises. They specialise in English literature, library sets and fine bindings, and have sections on sports, economics, children's and illustrated books, travel and exploration. There is a collection of prints and posters in the downstairs room.
