The Edinburgh Festival Theatre is used primarily for performances of opera and ballet, large-scale musical events and touring groups. After its most recent renovation in 1994 with a glass-fronted new entrance complementing restored art nouveau, beaux arts and neo-classicism features it seats 1,915. It is one of the major venues of the Edinburgh International Festival. The current theatre's location is the city's longest continuous theatre site, having been there since 1830 and is said to be haunted by a tall, dark stranger perhaps the famous illusionist The Great Lafayette.
