Veeraswamy was established in 1926 by Edward Palmer, a retired Indian Army officer and the grandson of an English general and an Indian princess. Located in central London, on Regent Street it is renowned for its Indian cuisine and Raj inspired opulent and sumptuous interiors. It has been a popular restaurant for the rich and famous for many decades. Notable diners at Veeraswamy have included Winston Churchill, Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Charlie Chaplin. Although not the first Indian restaurant to be opened in Britain it can now claim to be the oldest surviving. In 2016 Veeraswamy was awarded a Michelin star.
