Ickworth House is an Italiante country house near Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk. The house built in the early 1800s, was the creation of Frederick Hervey, 4th Earl of Bristol who commissioned the Italian architect Asprucci to design him a classical villa for showcasing his treasures from around the world. These days it boasts the best collection of fine Georgian silver in Britain as well as outstanding portraits, Regency furniture and porcelain. A most unusual house with its 105ft domed rotunda, Ickworth divides opinion either as an overgrown folly or a recognized monumental work.
