Burghley House is a grand 16th century country house near Stamford, Lincolnshire and a leading example of the Elizabethan prodigy house. Its park was laid out by Capability Brown. The house was built in 1558 and modelled on the privy lodgings of Richmond Palace. The stonemasonry and proportion reflected the prominence and wealth of its founder Sir William Cecil. It has a suite of rooms remodelled in the baroque style with carvings by Grinling Gibbons. Burghley House has been featured in several movies including Batman Begins, Pride & Prejudice and The Da Vinci Code.
