Described as Yorkshire's finest stately home Castle Howard was built in the 18th century as a baroque structure with symmetrical wings and a central dome and took over 100 years to complete. It was popularised by the TV adaptation of Evelyn Waugh's Brideshead Revisited in the 1980s. As well as extensive gardens there is a notable arboretum, walled garden, temple, mausoleum, an obelisk and follies.
